Radio Communications Abrolhos Islands

In the light of a number of serious incidents in the Islands of theĀ Abrolhos recently, we at Geraldton Marine Rescue are trying to raise awareness regarding radio communications from the Abrolhos islands to the mainland. In conjunction with DFES and WAVMR we operate and monitor two Marine VHF radio repeaters – one on Rat Island (Channel 81) and another on the Moresby Range (Channel 82). The accompanying Chart shows the nominal range of these. We monitor these from Geraldton on a 24/7 basis.

We also encourage all visitors to the Islands to log their trips with us – this considerably shortens response time should assistance be required and also confirms that communications equipment is operating correctly.

We also broadcast Local Waters Forecasts 3 times per day at 07:15, 12:15 & 16:15 hours. Our 24/7 emergency telephone contact number is 0427 643 543

Please share this information with all mariners.
